The Metric​

The Metric is a sentient Executive Artificial Intelligence representing the highest authority in the known Cosmos.

Cypher​

Cypher is anti-Metric technology created by the mysterious entity Hash.

What it does: When activated, Cypher disrupts planetary Metric scores for approximately 2.54 seconds, creating brief windows where the Metric cannot monitor or influence behavior.

Key facts:

  • Hash is the sole creator—no one else understands how to create it
  • Spreads through Hash's distribution network across the Outback
  • Known as "Hash's Gift" among users
  • The Centopoly views it as an existential threat

The choice Cypher represents:

  • Continue under Metric guidance with peace and prosperity
  • Embrace freedom with all its risks—for good or ill

The Conflict​

Cypher's release sparked the Reticle Cold War—a shadow conflict fought across virtual and physical space.

Neither side can achieve total victory:

  • The Metric cannot be destroyed by conventional means
  • Cypher cannot be fully suppressed while Hash remains free
  • The approaching Conclave (4 years away) creates additional tension as Candidate Worlds seek to bolster their position

As an Echo Operative, you navigate between these forces. Your choices gradually position you as pro-Centopoly, anti-Centopoly, or somewhere in between.
